David Watson
David is Technical Director at AKT II, where he co-leads the practice in matters related to Climate Action. He is a structural engineer by training with particular focus on adaptive re-use, design efficiency and material innovation. He has lectured widely on these topics at universities across the UK, Ireland, Sweden and the United States. His recent work includes the Stirling Prize nominated 100 Liverpool Street, the rejuvenation of the world’s first cast-iron framed building at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and the new home for the Museum of London at West Smithfield.
AKT II is a progressive, design-led structural and civil engineering firm with projects in 44 countries worldwide. The practice operates from its central London headquarters of over 300 people, with regional offices in Manchester, Cambridge and Copenhagen. Technical expertise is our baseline but it’s where we take the conversation beyond that which makes the difference. Our projects have been recognised with over 350 design awards, including four RIBA Stirling Prize wins. We are a certified B Corporation.
