Whitby Wood at FOOTPRINT+

Whitby Wood at FOOTPRINT+

One month on and our team reflect on FOOTPRINT+ London, the UK carbon reduction in property event.

On the Timber Stage, associate director Robert Mills asked, “How can building owners and cities overcome the first hurdle of building up?” Alongside Pablo Durán Millán from Mule Studio and Built by Nature UK Networks lead Joe Giddings, we introduced the Whitby Wood led pan-European partnership promoting the embodied carbon benefits of lightweight timber vertical extensions. The team presented the FOOTPRINT+ audience a first look at the prototype open-source ‘Optoppen’ viability tool currently under development for application in the UK, Spain and The Netherlands. Our thanks to Karianne Kraaijestein for moderating the discussion.

Under another key stream, ‘financing the carbon revolution’, the discussion of SFDR regulatory compliance with Article 8 or 9 requirements resonated greatly with Whitby Wood’s ‘Playbook approach’ to embed ESG principles in design and construction.

Design Engineer Florence Medforth said, “It was inspiring to hear about the innovations taking place across the industry— we’re always looking for the latest in low-carbon technologies.”

At Whitby Wood we’re committed to this ongoing spirit of collaboration and transparency. Get in touch to find out how we’re working to address the diverse challenges faced by cities in achieving a net zero future.

We look forward to returning for#FP25!
