Theo Michell is a co-founder and Principal at Bywater Properties leading on all aspects of project design and delivery. Theo co-founded the business with Richard Walker having started his career in the Strategic Consulting team at Jones Lang LaSalle. Theo’s recent focus has been on delivering Bywater’s first low-carbon timber frame office project, ‘Paradise’, in Vauxhall, London and leading Bywater’s focus on low carbon design for current and future projects. Theo holds a MSc and PhD from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL and studied urban geography and social theory at the University of Cambridge.

Bywater Properties is property developer and BCorp based in London and working across the UK. Bywater’s recent focus has been on low-carbon office development and current projects include the  ‘Paradise’ building in Vauxhall, London, one of the UK’s first mass timber office developments. Bywater is co-owned and led by Patrick O’Gorman, Theo Michell and Richard Walker. In early 2023 the Sumitomo Forestry Company Ltd, a Tokyo stock exchange listed forestry and timber development specialist, acquired an interest in Bywater to act as their exclusive partner in the UK and Europe across office and all residential sectors.
